The Kakadu Tilt is a shower commode chair with seat tilt adjustable from -5° to +25° and a headrest as standard. It combines a shower chair, a commode with a removable bucket and a transport chair, and the carer sets the tilt angle with a single lever. Who is the tilt shower commode chair for?

The Kakadu Tilt is intended for people with limited ability to stand and walk who cannot use a regular shower cubicle, bath or toilet, even after adaptation. In the standard version on 5″ castors the chair is pushed by a carer – it suits users who do not propel a chair themselves. The version with optional 24″ wheels is intended for people who have retained arm strength and grip.

The manufacturer specifies use in home care, long-term care facilities and hospitals.

Contraindication: according to the manufacturer’s instructions, the chair should not be used by people who cannot maintain a stable sitting position. Users with cognitive impairment must be supervised. The choice of a tilt chair should be made together with a doctor or physiotherapist.

How does the tilt function work?

To change the tilt, the carer pulls the lever below the headrest on the backrest, sets the chair to the required angle and releases the lever. The adjustment range is -5° to +25°.

Because of the tilt function, the chair has a specially designed front frame. The user should not lean far forward or sit on the front edge of the seat with their feet on the footrests – shifting the weight to the front can make the chair tip. Before reaching for something or sliding forward to transfer, place the feet on the floor first, with the brakes locked. Never leave the user unattended with the seat in the fully forward or fully reclined position.

Design and adjustment

Frame

White powder-coated aluminium tubing, resistant to corrosion and disinfectants. The chair consists of the main frame with seat, a detachable backrest frame with armrests, the headrest, the footrests and four castor assemblies bolted in at the chosen height.

Seat and commode bucket

The soft PU seat has a hygiene cut-out closed by a removable cover and is held by clips. The bucket with lid slides into guide rails under the seat from the rear. Seat height is 55–60 cm and is changed by repositioning the castors (three settings in 2.5 cm steps).

Headrest

The vertical headrest bar fits into a clamp at the top of the backrest. Height is set by loosening the clamp bolt; the headrest also adjusts in depth and angle and has an ear recess.

Armrests and footrests

The armrests flip up to make transfers and washing easier. The footrests have adjustable length, adjustable footplate angle and folding footplates; after releasing the lever they swing aside and can be removed.

Castors and brakes

As standard, four 5″ swivel castors with foot-locked brakes. Optionally, at extra cost, the rear castors can be replaced with the 24″ wheel kit (item no. 302023) with pushrims, quick-release axles and parking brakes. With the 24″ wheels fitted, the overall width increases by 14 cm, the length by 19 cm and the weight by 4.2 kg. For the Tilt with 24″ wheels, the manufacturer particularly recommends an anti-tip.

Accessories for the Kakadu Tilt

The accessories listed below are optional extras – they are not included with the chair and are charged separately. Order them separately, choosing the version that matches the chair’s seat width. The table shows which accessories fit the 45 cm (302024) and 50 cm (302025) versions.

24″ wheel kit (302023) and anti-tip (302125)

The 24″ wheel kit for the Tilt contains wheels with pushrims, quick-release mechanisms and parking brakes with brackets. It allows a user with sufficient arm strength to move the chair independently. For the Tilt with 24″ wheels, the manufacturer particularly recommends anti-tip 302125 (sold individually, 1 pc).

Seat cushions 30210U and 30211U

Soft foam cushions with a Decutex cover, 45 × 40 × 5 cm. The seams are fully welded, so the cover is water-resistant and easy to keep clean, and the underside is anti-slip; foam density 50 kg/m³. 30210U has an open front (for the standard seat with hygiene cut-out); 30211U has a closed front (for the seat with a round hole).

Seat plate lid 302110 / 302155

A soft PU plate that covers the whole seat and sits in the cut-out, so it does not shift. The item number depends on seat width: 302110 – Tilt 45 cm, 302155 – Tilt 50 cm. When the opening is covered, the bucket with lid must be in place under the seat.

Adjustable strap backrest 302164 / 302165

Replaces the standard backrest. Three adjustable hook-and-loop straps let you set the tension to the shape of the back, and the perforated surface does not absorb water and lets air through. 302164 – Tilt 45 cm, 302165 – Tilt 50 cm.

Side support pads

Moulded polyurethane pads mounted on the backrest tube or at the seat, with stepless position adjustment. Two sizes: 10 × 14 cm (30212P left, 30212R right) and 14 × 20 cm (30212Q left, 30212S right). Standard backrest only.

Safety belt 302122

A belt with no metal parts, attached with loops around the backrest tubes. Loosened, it serves as a safety belt; tightened, as a back strap supporting the lumbar area.

Splash guard 30214U

A soft polyurethane guard fitted without tools to the front edge of the cut-out on the standard 45 cm seat. It limits splashing outside the bucket and acts as a spacer between the legs.

Amputation supports 302128 / 302129 and closed footplate 30212Z

The amputation supports are fitted without tools in place of the standard footrest; two moulded polyurethane shells with independent angle adjustment support the residual limb. The 165 × 320 mm closed footplate replaces the two separate footplates with one support surface for both feet.

Kakadu Tilt or standard Kakadu?

The Kakadu Tilt differs from the standard Kakadu versions in several parameters worth comparing before you buy:

• Tilt adjustment and headrest – Tilt version only.
• Seat height – 55–60 cm on the Tilt versus 50–55 cm on the standard version.
• Length – 110–120 cm versus 93 cm for the standard small-wheel version; the chair needs more space in the bathroom.
• Toilet clearance width – 35 cm (45 cm seat) and 40 cm (50 cm seat), less than the standard version with the same seat width.
• Sizes – the Tilt comes in 45 and 50 cm seat widths; the 55 cm and XXL (61 cm, up to 270 kg) versions are only available as the Kakadu shower commode chair with small wheels.
